About Me

I’ve had to learn to live life on the positive side. If I can do it, I know anyone can. My goal here is to share my experiences, have others share their's and together we can help and encourage each other to be better people. As we all know, success in life takes effort, a change in behavior and the realization that you have to do both to succeed. Maybe you are one of the millions of people who begin every year saying, “This year is going to be different. This year I’m going to make my dreams come true”. If you do not prepare and change your actions from your current path for the upcoming year, do you really believe you will end up at a different destination than last year? What if we did it together, supporting each other on a daily basis. I hope you'll join the journey of finding positive light in an ever negative world.

Remembering the path

I seem to have these periods of ups and downs. I haven’t been able to put my finger on it exactly. I know that I will be fine, that I am fine now. I’m not sure if it’s just the emotional trauma of the word Cancer, or if it’s something else I’m not identifying yet.

A friend unknowingly taught me a very important lesson this morning. She said, “I believe you were on the path to wellness long before you even know of this journey.” It was a shift in thinking I needed in that moment. Marianne Williamson said “We can always choose to perceive things differently. You can focus on what’s wrong in your life, or you can focus on what’s right”. When you aren’t aligned with good things and wellness, you can’t see what that good is. At times when I have my downs, I can see the good and move towards it. It’s a deliberate decision to choose good over the bad. I am grateful for many things at this moment. I’m grateful that my husband for perceived a shift was needed and reminded me that I was a couple months late on having my annual mammogram; I am grateful that Dr. Saber decided to play on the cautious side. Even though at the time he thought everything was probably fine, something in him made the shift towards good and he made the decision that based on my lack of mammo history, he really would like to biopsy those cells; I’m grateful for whoever that person was who cancelled their physical in November and allowed me to move mine in their place before I started a new job, otherwise I probably would have put it off until the spring when I had paid time off; I’m grateful that it was caught in the extreme early stages and that I will live. Some woman aren’t so lucky. A hundred things could have gone wrong and created a different outcome. But fortunately, being aligned with Wellness created the circumstances where a hundred things went right instead. For that I am extremely thankful! <3

"A 30 Day Journey Towards Empowerment” - Day 3

Our thoughts are literally our power in this world, so I want to talk... more about them today.

Begin to create in your mind and expectation that good things will happen. Look for clues that lead you towards your wants and desires. Don't look for the things that support your bad thoughts. Deliberately change the direction of your thinking by looking for the path way leading you down a better road. Don't be afraid to step out and meet those people and circumstances that are directing you forward. For instance, everyone you meet up with has been directed to cross your path based on the thoughts and feelings you send out. You are emitting a signal drawing them in. So if the types of people you meet are determined by the type of thoughts and feelings you emit, can you see how important it is for you to be deliberate in your thought process and choose the path you want to take instead of living by default? When we choose our thoughts deliberately and direct our path in the general direction of the way WE want to go, the people, places and circumstances that we need to grow and change will be placed in front of us. Don't be discouraged if these things don't seem to be what you believe to be helpful to your overall growth. There is a lesson to be found in everything and it takes some practice and persistence to change your thoughts and feelings, so it may be a little while before the things and circumstances in your life begin to change. Don't give up hope. Continue moving on knowing you are heading towards a better place. Dr. Wayne Dyer says "You can't discover light by analyzing the darkness". In turn he says you can change that phrase up by swapping out the words with almost anything… "You can't discover abundance by analyzing lack", "You can't discover health by analyzing illness"…so I’d just like to add to that "You can't discover empowerment by analyzing the disempowerment".

Choose good thoughts to think, take the time to deliberately search for a thought that will give you a little relief from where you are at the moment. Create a forward momentum instead of a backwards momentum, and give yourself credit for the successes, no matter how small you think they may be.

Sending Love,
Wendy

"A 30 Day Journey Towards Empowerment” - Day 2

The one thing I thought about when I would think of the word “empowerment” was, to be empowered you must exhibit great strength. I always felt the need to be Superwoman. I had to be able to do it all, for myself and my family, and I had to be the best at it. And if I couldn’t do it all, it meant certain failure, I had failed everyone and I had failed myself because I couldn’t do it all. I was totally wrong.

It is really sad the things we tell ourselves. The stories we make up in our heads about how we think life should be. The problem with creating expectations in your head is that nobody can possibly live up to them, including you. The way to change where you are and create a life of empowerment and happiness is to tell yourself a better story. I had to accept that I didn’t have to stay where I was, and in the same respect, I didn’t have to quantum leap into happiness and bliss to create something new and wonderful flowing in my life.

It is impossible to quantum leap from despair and frustration into happiness. That’s why happy people annoy you when you are feeling down. You are not in the same emotional vicinity as they are, so there is no way you can relate to them. You just want to roll your eyes at them and trip them as they walk by. Just kidding! So if you can’t quantum leap into happiness from where you are, then how do you get there from here? I chose to fill my days and nights and all the space in between with better thoughts…more loving accepting thoughts. It became important to me to plug into positive material such as books, CD’s and positive friends. I also needed to remain open to new change and growth and stay open to the possibility that my life could be different.

Changing your life takes conscious effort. I had come to the point where I was no longer willing to live by default, I had to create my life the way I wanted it. In order to change my thoughts, I literally had to change my mind by talking myself into better thoughts. When I had what I thought was a “normal” (unempowering) thought, such as “I can’t do this, its not going to change anything”, I had to have a conversation with myself and say “Okay, then what is the alternative? No, that doesn’t sound very good either. What if I didn’t have this thought? What would I be able to accomplish? Maybe I can do this, maybe I should do this?? Okay, I will try this for one more moment”. After all we only have this moment, so in this moment you can choose to think and feel good feelings or choose to live by default and let other people or circumstance dictate your life. You don’t have to commit to doing this for the next 20 years or even 20 minutes - none of us are promises more than this moment in time. You only have to commit to thinking better thoughts in this moment, and then in this moment, and then in this moment. Don’t become overwhelmed by the concept of time, and PLEASE be forgiving with yourself! I have moments everyday where I could have made a better decision. Just let it go, because it’s in the past, and then choose to think a better, good feeling thought.

Take a few moments to identify one thing that you would like to change in your life. Then make a list of your negative emotions that surround the issue. Create a few new positive thoughts for each negative emotion you have written down. Carry it around with you if you need to and each time you revert to the negative thought process, tell yourself the new positive thought and keep repeating it in your mind. Remember, the more emotion you can associate with a thought the more impact it will have to change your habits, so really feel the emotion from the positive thoughts, be grateful that you have the opportunity to change. Even if you don’t see it yet, know the change is coming. Change isn’t something you see, it happens over time and it’s something you have to trust is happening. You can let change happen to you or you can create positive change for yourself. You will find that once you start doing this for one area of your life, it will spill over to other areas in your life. It is very important to plug into a positive source such as CD’s or friends who will feed you good thoughts as well.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please share them or email me at justfeelgood2@gmail.com.

Sending you love.

"A 30 Day Journey Towards Empowerment” - Day 1

I really wanted to start this blog session by finding out what empowerment means to you and share a bit about what empowerment has meant to me and my journey towards it.

A few years ago I was very much paralyzed by my feeling of helplessness. I felt as though I was unable to implement significant change in my life. My primary frustration was with weight, although there were many other things that I wanted to experience real change in as well. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t seem to lose any weight. A friend of mine recommended the Atkins diet to me and after assuring them it was a hopeless mission, I agreed to trust their guidance and began with the firm resolve in my mind, I’ll do this for 2 weeks and nothing will happen…I’ll show them!! To my surprise, I lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks. I was amazed and thrilled and very thankful I had decided to at least try. Over the next several months I lost 33 pounds and I began to feel empowered to change my life. Not just my weight, but all aspects of my life. If I could do that, then I can do anything! For me empowerment had been my action in daily accomplishments of a fixed goal that I set. Before I had never made a list of goals I want to accomplish.

I’ll back track just a bit….About a year before I began my weight loss, I had been listening to The Secret. I listened to it everyday and became fascinated by the concept of my thoughts creating things. I couldn’t believe how logical the concept really was. I thought, “That is absolutely right! Nothing ever begins without a thought. You can’t create or have goals without first thinking them”. The Secret further talked about the need to feel good about the thoughts you have and the desires you hold. That was the key to bring them into existence. Somehow, the very concept that my feelings determined whether my thoughts became a reality or not made perfect sense to me. Many of us are taught from birth that life evolves around you and you live it by default. Things just happen and you deal with them. I became very excited about the concept that I could create my life as opposed to living it by default. I started developing a belief in the concept of Law of Attraction and began contemplating things I wanted without really knowing how they would ever come to me. To my surprise and amazement, the direction I needed was (and is) always provided to me….beginning with my friend’s suggestion on weight loss. I have gone on to lose more than 50 pounds and I continue to attend to my fitness and eating goals daily.

Empowerment to me has become a knowing that I can create my life and then taking action as the path is revealed to me towards the goals I choose (not one that someone else chooses for me). It has been a bit of a journey, for sure, to get to this place, but once you realize you are living life everyday on your journey towards your goals, everything becomes empowering. All those times I’ve said, I want to write and I want to help people feel good and feel empowered is now being realized. I’m living it now! It’s all in the process of the journey to the goal. I’m taking the incremental steps I need to in order to get there. My point is that the goal can be whatever you decided to make it, but please realize it’s in the journey that you are living every day that the goal and the dream will be realized…you will never “arrive” at a destination, the process of achieving is life. So enjoy this day and empower yourself to do one new thing today to create change. It all starts with a belief that things can be different.

I would love to hear your thoughts and vision on what empowerment means to you or what a feeling of greater empowerment would mean to you. Please feel free to share here or email me at justfeelgood2@gmail.com.

I look forward to our journey together towards empowerment!

A Few More Selected Quotes

The grand awakening happens when you can see for the first time that the only thing which can bring you true happiness is you. When you love yourself that much, you have awakened to the glory, warmth and magnificence that is empowerment. The truth is you are everything you will ever need, and anything and everyone that comes along for the ride, makes life a sweeter more delicious experience. Wendy Shaw 8/3/10

If you knew for sure you couldn’t fail, would you hold anything back? Guess what? You can’t fail! Start by focusing on the future and not on where you’ve already been or are now. When you focus on where you’ve been, you’ll get more of where you’ve been; when you focus on where you are, you’ll get more of where you are; and when you focus on where you’re going, you’ll eventually go there. Hmmmm…YES it’s that simple. Wendy Shaw 8/5/10

Without a keen sense of personal power, the soul cries for freedom from the restrictions you have allowed to be imposed on your behalf. It’s like a cleansing rain, washing away your misconceptions and allowing a clear view of who you are really meant to be. Wendy Shaw 8/31/10

The amazing abilities of one individual can out shine the ordinary efforts of 10,000 men. - Every circumstance you have lived has been one chosen by you to create understanding, compassion and a warm glow of love and acceptance (a torch of light) by which your soul can share its true message to others who are in need of understanding. An understanding that these amazing gifts lay within them too if they are willing to accept the responsibility of their divine greatness. Wendy Shaw 9/1/10
